Community Relations Internship

Position Title:       Community Relations Intern
Supervisor:          Andrea Johnson, Director of Development
Department:         Development
Hours:                 Flexible, 10-15 hrs/week

Current available internship is for 2010/2011 fall and winter quarters.

Cancer Lifeline provides non-medical support to all people afected by cancer. Located near Green Lake, Cancer Lifeline is one of Seattle’s oldest cancer support service organizations and began with a 24 hour toll free “lifeline” in 1973. Today, Cancer Lifeline has support services and programs in 16 Western Washington counties including three partner hospitals; Valley Medical Center, Evergreen Hostpital and Medical Center and Northwest Hospital. Cancer Lifeline’s mission is to optimize the quality of life for all people living with cancer.

Position Description:

Coordinate a speaking engagement program to raise awareness and support. Position is unpaid, though college credit may be an option.

  • Responsible for the research, outreach, scheduling and coordination of Cancer Lifeline’s speaking engagements to: community, civic groups, panels etc.
  • Facilitate speaking training and foster positive relationships with community, civic groups and panels.
  • Respond to all inquiries regarding Cancer Lifeline speaking engagements.
  • Maintain up-to-date information kits and assist with new marketing materials as needed.
  • Write, edit and proof speaking engagement materials.
  • Create web and newsletter content for speaking engagement information and inquiries.
  • Prepare monthly status report.
  • Other community relations/development tasks as required.

Qualifications/Requirements:

This position requires a dynamic self-motivated person, able to multi-task and work with many different types of people. It requires someone who is reliable, responsible and thorough, well spoken and diplomatic. Previous work in a non-profit as well as a strong commitment to human services and or cancer preferred.

Education: Course work towards a degree from an accredited college or University; preferably in Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, English or Business.

Experience: Proficiency is PC, including Microsoft Office. Strong writing, editing and communication skills required. Outstanding time management and excellent organizational and follow-up skills needed.
