Lymphedema Education & Support Program

Lymphedema is swelling that can occur anywhere in the body and is often caused by cancer treatment like surgery and radiation. One-third of women treated for breast cancer develop some lymphedema. This condition can be treated and may be preventable.

Cancer Lifeline’s Lymphedema Program offers people with or at-risk for lymphedema:

  • Education about Lymphedema
  • Support in Coping with Lymphedema
  • Exercise Appropriate for Lymphedema

In 2007, we offer lymphedema programs in King, Pierce, Snohomish, Clallam and Whatcom Counties, including:

Free Lymphedema DVD: Call (206) 297-2500 or 1(800) 255-5505 to request a copy for yourself or multiple copies for distribution to a group of people with (or at risk for) lymphedema.

Lymphedema Networking & Support Groups: Some groups meet monthly in Everett, Tacoma and Sequim. Get your questions answered by a lymphedema therapist and meet other people coping with lymphedema.

As well as:
Shoreline/King County Lymphedema Tea
Sequim/Clallam County Lymphedema Luncheon

Lymphedema Exercise Program: Lebed Method, Focus on Healing exercise classes are offered at Northwest Hospital, Sequim/Clallam County and Bellingham/Whatcom County. The exercise is fun, safe for lymphedema and may help reduce risk for it.

Annual Lymphedema Educational Extravaganza: Includes activities such as presentation on understanding lymphedema , panel discussion about living with lymphedema, informatin about exercise and lymphedema and, luncheon and fashion show. Call (206) 297-2500 or 1(800) 255-5505 to learn the date and location of the 2007 event.

Information Sharing and Networking at Health Fairs: We distribute information about lymphedema at health fairs throughout King, Pierce, Snohomish, Clallam and Whatcom Counties. Contact us about health fairs at which there should be information about lymphedema!
