CANCER LIFELINE Honors 2006 Caregivers of the Year

Cancer Lifeline, a Seattle-based not-for-profit organization whose mission is to optimize the quality of life for cancer patients and cancer survivors, held their annual awards luncheon on April 27 at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center. The Faces of Caregiving Awards luncheon strives to identify and honor individuals or groups in our community who exemplify care-giving to its fullest. This year’s award winners are:

Mary and Rick Clarfeld, MD
Rick is a pre-eminent breast cancer surgeon at Overlake Hospital Medical Center and on Cancer Lifeline’s Medical Advisory board. Mary is a lecturer at the University of Washington’s Business School and a member of Cancer Lifeline’s Friends Committee.

Cecilia Izzo
Cecilia is a special individual who is passionate about people living with lung cancer. She worked with Cancer Lifeline to start Washington State’s very first lung cancer support group and helped to pass Washington’s smoke-free legislation, Initiative 901.

Wings – Women In Need of Group Support
Since1998 WINGS has provided a support group for women with cancer. Close to thirty women have come into their circle and been lifted-up or held closely.

Cancer Lifeline honors caregivers each year because they are vital to the Cancer Lifeline mission. The organization provides a 24 hour telephone Lifeline plus support services and classes designed to meet the needs of people living with cancer.
