The Calliope
by Morris Sharlup
The cycle of life
Spins around and around
Like an old psychedelic
Merry-go-round
Some horses dance
up
And others dance down
To the tunes of
An ancient calliope
Some tunes are so
sad
They can tear you apart
But mostly theyre happy
And a joy to the heart
Like the song of the
winds
As they dance with the trees
And the ripples of the brook
As they play with the breeze
The splash of the
waves
As they jump on the beach
And the laughter of a child
As it runs up to me
A young maiden appeared
And sat down at my side
I asked: Would you please
join me on this ride?

We caught the gold ring
And waltzed round and round
To the beautiful tunes
Of the calliope
Some loved ones
got tired
And got off the ride
I wanted to get off
And lie down at their side
But instead I stayed
on
And got back on my horse
And danced to the tunes
Of the calliope
Like the song of
the winds
As they danced with the trees
And the ripples of the brook
As they played with the breeze
And the splash of
the waves
As they jumped on the beach
And the laughter of a child
As it runs up to me
